Panel: A post-Yugoslavian purview

Saturday, 14.11.09, 17:00 – 19:30

The panel will try to provide an economic, geo-political and current socio-cultural purview of the post-Yugoslav societies from the regional point-of-view. A particular consideration will be given to how the regional context, on the one hand, and the varied dynamics of accession/non-accession to the European Union, on the other, are playing out on their respective trajectories: shared histories, economic exchanges and market integrations, mobility and visa regimes, migrations, integrating mass cultural and media markets, cultural exchanges, cultural collaborations. Given that the borders of the European Union are now being redrawn, cutting down right through the middle of the region, the panel of economic, political and social scholars will discuss if and how the specificities of this borderland, margin should pan out on the politics and policies of the EU integrations.

Moderator: Aleksandar Bošković

Speakers: Dejan Jović (University of Stirling, Centre for European Neighborhood Studies, Director), Vladimir Gligorov (The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies), Svetlana Slapšak (Institutum Studiorum Humanitatis, Dean / Ljubljana)
